Don’t you just love it when a friend surprises you with a fantastic night out?! In my case, the friend, Andrew, who also happens to be our Solicitor, called me yesterday around 5 pm to see whether Adrian or I would like to join him as his guest at the 26th Annual Mayor’s Celebration of the Arts at the Winspear Centre. Sadly, Adrian was unable to join us but I took a few images from our vantage point in the Upper Circle and then a few more during the After Party reception.
There were many Award recipients for their work in promoting the Arts in Edmonton. The awards were interspesed with performances from Angela Hogan & Knock Irish Dance Troupe, Edmonton’s Poet Laureate Anna Marie Sewell, Acapella Singers 6 Minute Warning, Singer-Songwriter Nuela Charles, Improvisation by Belinda Cornish & Mark Meer with help from Mayor Mandel, Kent Sangster & Obsessions Octet and Corb Lund & the Hurtin’ Albertans.

Acapella Singers 6 Minute Warning’s performance was beautiful and came complete with dance moves that matched the changed in their various pitches. The number 1 plaque where I sat in the Upper Circle. The Mayor thinks he had the best seat in the house but I beg to differ. The plaque agrees with me ha!
As I tweeted last night: “@nuelacharles ‘ voice is just as fantastic as her gold sparkly dress.” True story.
Again from our tweets last night: “@CorbLund & 2/3s of the Hurtin’ Albertans on stage now. First time I’ve heard him singing as we’re newbies to#Canada.” The splendor of the Winspear Centre is very apparent in the left image.
The After Party food was sponsored by Northlands and was very yummy.
This image was our image of the day for yesterday for our 2013 | 365 project. Andrew is our talented Solicitor. He’s in front of the collection of art in the foyer that was curated by The Works International Visual Arts Society sponsored by Enbridge. We like how his hair style mirrors the art.
Whilst I was taking the above images of Andrew, a lovely lady offered to take a photo of Andrew & I soo…
Andrew struck his “Blue Steel” pose, his words, not mine haha! Then I took a photograph of the lady that took this image…
Meet Marla, a corporate & non-profit Events Planner, who turned out to have been the one handing Mayor Mandel the names of the Award winners (what power!).
Congratulations to the award winners, Professional Arts Coalition of Edmonton, PACE, Mayor Mandel & their sponsors for a fantastic evening. Thanks Andrew for the invitation.
