{30th March 2015}
I remember the first time I heard about board game cafes that were starting up in Edmonton. My initial reaction to the concept was one of confusion and wonder as how that would work. My experience of board gaming within my own family and friends was general chaotic fun and occasional creative (read as “playful cheating”) game play.
So when Tycoon Event Planning & Promotions and Hexagon Board Game Cafe got together to announce “A Games Night Out” at the Yellowhead Brewery on 30th March a few blocks from us, I thought I had to go and check it out for myself. I invited my friend, Meghan, to join me in this exploration.
Shortly afterwards, Eryne, the owner of Tycoon Event Planning & Promotions contacted me to photograph the event. I had a magnificent time covering the event and getting to try out some of the unusual and classic board games that the “Hexperts” selected from the over 400 games at their Whyte Avenue premises. The “Hexperts” were also available on the night to guide guests in choosing the games they might enjoy and in how to play the games. Yellowhead Brewery went all out with their delectable menu and of course, the eponymous beer. Eryne, who had organized, designed, coordinated and decorated the marvelous event was there all night to ensure that everyone was enjoying themselves.

The event also offered door prizes from Breakout Edmonton, CJSR, The Hexagon Board Game Cafe,Metro Cinema, and Yelp! Kim from YegTweetUp presented the prizes to the lucky winners.
I can testify that the board gaming with friends and strangers was definitely cool, a great way to meet new people and get to know them while playing the games honestly (of course, haha), enjoying the refreshments and supporting local businesses.
Thanks Eryne for asking me to be your Official Photographer!
