Funmi had a great time taking professional portraits of Cynthia and Jason of AVID Architecture Inc. a few days ago in and around their awesome downtown Edmonton office. I met Cynthia back in 2013 whilst I was doing our first Canadian 365 photo project. Of course, I featured Cynthia in that project so I was especially delighted when she took me up on one of our special offers for our Newsletter recipients! It was a pleasure to meet Jason on the portrait session date.
Cynthia & Jason told me more about their Incorporation: “AVID Architecture Inc. is an Alberta based firm with over 22 years of experience in the field of architecture. AVID team members bring an excellent track record of success in design and construction with both a big picture, community focused vision combined with expertise to guide us to the finished product. The work that our team members have done reflects our deep commitment to social design and community focused work.”
Cynthia Dovell, MArch, Architect, AAA,OAA,MRAIC, Principal, obtained her Masters of Architecture from the University of Toronto and is a licensed Architect. As she grew up in both rural and urban areas of the Albertan prairies, she brings a deep knowledge of the Alberta landscape and the communities that live here. With experience working together with many diverse groups and organizations on community facilities, she is adept at finding ways to meet diverse needs. Her resulting designs have been both functional and artful, as demonstrated by several award-winning projects.
Jason Ruhl, Dipl. Arch. Tech., Principal, graduated with Honours from NAIT in 2002 and has practised throughout Northern Alberta for more than 10 years. He has a track record of success in a wide range of projects, from healthcare and multifamily developments to highly technical building envelope repair and complex multi-phase renovations. His unique combination of real-world construction experience, technical knowledge and familiarity with digital tools has proven advantageous in every phase from schematic design through to final occupancy.
Cynthia was a Design Architect on the award-winning Scarborough Civic Centre Library, a Design Architect on Don River House, a Design Architect for the modernist revisions at Kitchener Library, and Design Architect for Up Inc., Wellington.Jason was a Designer and Construction Consultant on this house, which was featured in the Edmonton Journal article: “Eclectic Taste begins in the kitchen“, he drafted plans for the builder of “My House beautiful“, also featured in Edmonton Journal, and he drafted plans and did construction project management on this house that was featured in Avenue Magazine on pages 104 – 110.Cynthia and Jason continued: “Our design philosophy is built around the central principles of working collaboratively, achieving innovation through practical means, and creating a sense of place and community through spatial design and Architecture.”
Thanks Cynthia & Jason for a very enlightening portrait session.
