Amy, Dan, Tim & Malc of Amy Harrison and the Secondhand Stringband came for a walk with us along the sea front in Brighton. We started at Volks Electric Railway before heading to the arches near Madeira Drive. The band really wanted some shots of them at the Band Stand, so we headed there; whilst they performed some songs for us (as a special treat) without any volume amplification to ensure the local residents were not disturbed, we took some more photographs of them before heading off to New Road to watch them busking as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival. Their performance was rightly rewarded with rounds of applause and dancing from the audience members.
We love this image because the band had no power supply for this performance so the “electric” on the street sweeper is a great contradiction! Oh and he and his sweeper frame the band well.Just love all the colours in this.
We really enjoyed the session and so did they as you can see from Amy’s words:
“We wanted new photos for our upcoming CD and most of our songs deal with travelling to a new place, or leaving something (or someone) behind. We wanted to include this in the photos and have a transient theme which suggested we were passing through or staying just a short time. We love the photos, even though we couldn’t believe how overcast it was on the actual day (not to mention freezing cold) the pictures look great, and I think it even adds to the atmosphere. We sing a lot of songs about heartache, heartbreaks and murderous ballads after all! But I also love how Funmi and Adrian have caught us with our natural spark, we laugh a lot and have fun together and I think this comes through on the shots. Wonderful stuff!”
Here’s a clip from their busking session in New Road, Enjoy!
