{30th May 2013}
In May 2013, I, Funmi, had the pleasure of second shooting Andy’s Edmonton Sangeet & Jaggo for Romy Young Photography. It was the first Sangeet & Jaggo I had ever covered so I learnt that it is a pre-wedding event that happens a few days before the wedding. This was a Groom’s Sangeet & Jaggo so the evening started with koris, traditional songs sung by Andy’s female relatives. I learnt afterwards that the lyrics are were mischievous jokes betweeen the families, which explains all the giggles in the first image!
The arrival of Andy was heralded with more singing and dancing whilst some of his other relatives carried brass pots decorated with oil-lit candles on their heads amongst themselves. They also carried decorated sticks with bells and drums. This procession is known as “Jaggo” and is a fun announcement of the upcoming wedding.
These 5 images are very small preview of the festivities that night. Full collection will be published shortly.
Thanks Romy for having me along for the day. Congratulations again to Andy & his Bride, Ameet!
