A few weeks ago, we had the distinct pleasure of photographing the decor of Enbridge’s 2015 Christmas Party. Themed as “Christmas at the Enbridge Cabin”, Christina of I-D BOHEMIA Lifestyle, Events and Interiors excelled herself again.
She explains further: “When we were coming up with the design, Scott and I were working in the office one Fall afternoon, and I asked him, “How do you create a Christmas party without any of the symbols? No tree, no iconography, none of the usual.” I wanted to create the feel of Christmas even more than the look of it. He suggested that Christmas for him was about enjoying a good meal with the people you love, and that many of his favourite memories took place at a friend’s house in the mountains in winter. “Why don’t we do Christmas at the cabin?” While I love decking out homes in glittering ornaments and choosing well thought out gifts, ultimately, the best Christmases aren’t about lavish decorations or presents. This year’s Enbridge Staff Christmas Party was about bringing us back to the essentials of warmth, comfort and good company. Cozy conversations over coffee and cocoa, the glow of a burning fire, the wintry scent of evergreens-—this is the essence of Christmas.”
“We began by bringing in key pieces from I-D BOHEMIA’s own rental collection: polished nickel lanterns, antique copper boilers and galvanized wash tubs, oversized willow wreaths, cast iron garden urns, weathered wood farm tables, vintage loveseats, and many other things too numerous to mention. We filled in the gaps with oak barrels, additional soft seating and a hearth from Rustic Charm Designs & Signs, Neat Rentals, and Elegant Touches. We then layered on ornaments in russet hues, willow and berry branches, and piles of vintage wool and embroidered blankets, throws, sheepskins and pillows (casually arranged and fantastic for snuggling into with friends).” “We decided to include a few Christmas trees (6, in fact!); all the better to hang ornaments from, and we happened upon little gold trees while we were shopping (they looked so sweet at the entrance). ““We even carried the design through to the JACEK chocolate and salted caramel favours each guest received, handpainted in shades of red and gold and presented in a clear box for the colour to shine through.”
“Once the overhead lights were dimmed and the room glowed vibrant Christmas red (with a few cleverly placed gobo lights for added texture), guests were transported to an inviting candlelit winter lodge. But the real proof we’d done our job right was seeing both the living area and the dance floor packed all night with revelers. The room had the perfect mix of lively and relaxing energy, and it was definitely a party to remember.”
