The official Gumball 3000 website said:
“The Gumball is a 3000-mile drive, with 120 cars participating over eight days with additional events and parties throughout the period. Each year a new 3000-mile route is encountered, and over the past 10 years the event has incorporated Europe, North America, North Africa and Asia. Drivers are treated to a 5-star experience that could be described as being the ‘ultimate road-trip’. It’s not a race, and attracts all kinds of people and vehicles to participate; from vintage to modern supercars, and from rock stars and sheiks to the simple car enthusiast. Some say its a modern day version of the infamous 1970s Burt Reynolds Cannonball Run movies, and we have to agree that it does share similarities, attracting the most eccentric group of thrill-seekers imaginable, partying every night with the who’s who of international society and pop culture. This popular culture attraction has contributed to the events recognition as a ‘lifestyle’ event that is unlike any other. Gumball is as likely to appear in the world’s celebrity and fashion media as it is in traditional motoring media.
The 2010 rally will leave from London on 1st May before taking in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Boston, Quebec City and Toronto before rounding off in New York seven long days and nights later. In addition to the entry fee of £30,000 have you got what it takes to take on the Spirit of the Gumball? We are also now offering the opportunity to enter either the European or US leg of the rally for £12,000. “
So Adrian & I went to see for ourselves; the cars started off at Pall Mall where the crowd got too much so we walked to Green Park to get a better vantage point. With the cost of each car and the £30,000 entry fee, we wondered how people can afford these rallies?! In any case, it provided a colourful & welcome distraction from the normal Saturday afternoon London Traffic. Hope you enjoy these images.
Messrs J.Olsson & H.Olsson’s Lamborghini with a roof box = Genius :-)!
The driver was wearing a red wig, white-framed sunglasses and massive medallion neck chain whilst his passenger had donned a green wig. They were representing Italy and were visibly having fun doing so. The passenger was also aiming his vidoe camera at the blue-shirted pedestrian so cause all other spectators to laugh 🙂
It’s the Bat Mobile!!
The car told me to do it – blog!
On our preferred mode of transport – Southern Trains. My blinged-up steering wheel and adoring fans are just out of shot so you’ll have to imagine them 😉
