So I am off to Canada in 11 days! Yes, less than 2 weeks! I’m so excited about seeing Adrian and getting to know and love our new country of residence. This realisation also meant that I had this sudden urge to go and see some random places in London that I’d visited before like Somerset House and some that I’d always wanted to visit but never got round to like the British Library. I think the attraction for me was the sheer scale of those buildings and o, the amazing Tim Walker exhibition at Somerset House!
I started at Embankment in London as I walked to Somerset House. I was taking this photograph of the London Eye and Houses of Parliament in background when this very aptly painted London not-so-Black Cab drove by. It was meant to be.
Underneath Waterloo Bridge are these amazing red doors, such a contrast to the architecture of the Institution of Electrical Engineers just before the bridge.
Love the light bouncing off the Thames onto the arches of Waterloo Bridge. This image is a testament to waiting for the right moment. The Embankment road was very busy at 11 am on Monday but you couldn’t tell it, could you?
Somerset House looking resplendent in the winter sunshine.
Don’t you just love the bonus of discovering something beautiful?! Ok, so most people living in London were probably aware of the Ice rink at Somerset House but I wasn’t. I went there to see the Tim Walker exhibition so imagine my glee on seeing this when I came into the courtyard at Somerset House! No, I didn’t skate, after all, the skaters already had enough entertainment in skating, without me adding my sspecialty of skating on my derriere (“look, no hands and indeed, legs needed for my kind of “skating”!). I was more than happy to take photos, especially with that gorgeous wintery light. The Ice rink will be there till 6th Jan 2013 so go check it out and maybe, even skate.
As the Tim Walker: Story Teller exhibition needs to be seen to be truly appreciated and because understandly photography was not allowed, you’ll have to take mine and my friend, Fanni‘s words, when we say you should go and check it out. Thanks Fanni for inspiring me to go and see it. The exhibition is on till 27th Jan 2013.
After all that inspiration and wonder, refreshments were more than required so I met up with our good friend and talented Cake designer, Elizabeth from Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium for a quick catchup at the festively bedecked Drink Shop & Do.
After visiting another friend, Fiona, a lovely wedding photographer, I visited the British Library (told you I had random places to visit). It’s such a fantastic building and I imagine that with appropriate permissions, it’d be fab for an engagement shoot!
I saw a man that was as tall as a flight of stairs hehe. Such a sense of history in seeing books displayed like that. That bookshelf is as tall as three floors!
Hope you had a magical Monday too!
