Whilst enjoying this amazing Apple crumble with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup at Saltlik in Banff, we asked our Server to recommend a great breakfast place for the next morning. Trust us, we were stuffed after our meal at Saltlik and would not normally have been thinking about breakfast but we were on a short vacation so we had to plan ahead. Our lovely server recommended Melissa’s Restaurant & Bar so we checked it out the following morning.
Melissa’s is the only remaining portion of the original Homestead Hotel complex, which was built between 1913 & 1930; you can see a small section of the “newer” version of the Homestead Hotel in the first image.
The historical aspects & a nod to a few of the nationalities that visit the restaurant echo throughout the decor of the place. We love the atmosphere, high ceilings & huge windows. We discovered that Melissa’s has room to seat 150 people for private functions like parties & wedding receptions! Ahem, we’d love to cover weddings at Melissa’s Restaurant & Bar. You read it here first so tell everyone you know!
Adrian had a “Big Breakfast”, which is Two eggs, Two strips of Bacon, Two sausages, Two pancakes, shredded hash browns and toast. I had one of their house specials, a “Combo Omelette”, which is a deluxe mix of ham, cheddar, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes and onions. So what was missing? The information that the plate that they serve the big breakfast on is less a plate, more of a platter! It was massive. My combo omelette was just as filling. Both meals were absolutely delicious and served with a smile, freshly whipped butter and maple syrup!
The view from Melissa’s is of the Banff Park Lodge as it’s immediately opposite and more magnificently, the mountains.
We had our breakfast at 9:30 am and simply couldn’t think about food again till about 4 pm that day. That’s how filling breakfast was. Breakfast for us cost less than $30 so effectively, breakfast AND lunch for us cost less than $30. If you are in the vicinity, you need to go and experience it for yourself.
Happy eating & exploring!
