A few weeks ago, Cheryl asked us to photograph her as Miss Chezza as Quicksilver in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron . We were so excited to take these photographs and find out more about the world of cosplay. The portrait session was a lot of fun as you can see from the images. We thought that we would ask Miss Chezza to tell us more about her costume, the project and cosplay. As the Canadian cinematic release of Avengers: Age of Ultron is today, May 1, 2015, it seemed fitting to share this today!
The Costume
“I was on a bit of a time-crunch with the costume, but I put this one together with a blue spandex catsuit as a base and attached cotton lightning bolts to complete the look (along with other white accessories). In the film, Quicksilver wears a shirt and pants with the lightning bolt on the side, but the traditional comic book character wore a full blue bodysuit with a lightning bolt crossing from shoulder to hip. We decided to combine these two looks for the final costume, which kept the white gloves and blue bodysuit, but added in the side lightning bolt from the Age of Ultron version of Quicksilver.”
Why Miss Chezza as Quicksilver?
“When Mikkel of Amazing Model Design approached me about this project, I thought it was a great idea to use female models to represent each character in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. Gender-bending cosplays are becoming increasingly common and I loved the thought of using strong, powerful women to portray characters that were (for the most part) traditionally strong, powerful men.”
On Cosplay
“I’m still very new to the cosplay scene, but I’ve quickly come to realize the level of creativity and artwork that goes into the culture. When someone puts a lot of effort into a cosplay, I think it deserves to be shown in its best light. That’s why great photography is crucial to every cosplayer! I’m investing more time and money into cosplay at the moment and I can’t wait to begin showcasing some new hand-made costumes.”
The Session
“Having my photographs taken by Funmi and Adrian was a blast! They’re very relaxed and friendly, so I never felt pressured or uncomfortable–we had plenty of laughs during our session (being in a costume in public definitely helped). I loved how professional they were with the whole shoot, too. Despite the snow and the blinding sun, they’d do whatever it took to get the best shot. I’m also really glad that they encouraged me to run, because the running shots they got turned out amazingly well! I really hope I get to shoot with them again in the future because their eye for detail and reat creative direction produced some stunning photography that I’m proud to include in my cosplay portfolio.”
O, we hope that we get to work with you again soon, Cheryl!
