Thanks to an invitation from our friend, Tamara, we attended the Grand Opening Ceremony of the new DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in West Edmonton. Tamara did a Storify of all the social media shares of the event here. Some of you might remember its location as being previously Mayfield Inn. This article by Bill Mah of Edmonton Journal gives more information about the process of their transformation from Mayfield Inn to DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
The Grand Opening Ceremony commenced with a beautiful & graceful performance by the Firefly Theatre and Circus before speeches from several executives from DoubleTree by Hilton, SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts & 2-time Olympic Medalist Catriona Le May, O.C.
The guests were treated to a micro performance from the cast of Hairspray, currently on its run at Mayfield Dinner Theatre.
Councillor Andrew Knack presented a celebratory plaque from the City of Edmonton to Grant McCurdy, General Manager of DoubleTree by Hilton before he and other VIPs cut the ribbon lowered from the ceiling by the performers from Firefly Theatre & Circus!
After the formal elements, we were all invited to try a wide variety of delectable savoury and sweet dishes from their on-site restaurant, Stages Kitchen & Bar, Cakes by Candace, alcoholic & virgin cocktails and of course, Yellowhead Brewery Beer!
Guests were entered into several prize draws for complimentary stays or gift certificates for Stages Kitchen & Bar. Adrian won one of the complimentary stays in their King Suite! Thanks Tamara for the invitation & congratulations to DoubleTree by Hilton West Edmonton on your opening.
